
Softball Set for First-Place Charlotte

DENTON – UNT softball hosts Charlotte for a three-game Conference USA series at Lovelace Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. with all games broadcast on ESPN+. Fans can purchase tickets HERE.
North Texas (24-16, 9-6) enters on a four-game winning streak including a sweep of at UTEP last weekend and have won in five of its past six contests. The 49ers (24-15, 11-3) stumbled in a 2-1 loss to Liberty on Wednesday but sit in first place in the league.
Rodney DeLong enters the weekend with 298 wins over his nine-year coaching career which includes stints at Cameron and Austin Peay University before arriving in Denton.
Kailey Gamble currently leads C-USA with 14 home runs and sits at seventh in the nation. She also leads the league with an .809 slugging percentage and ranks top three in RBI, walks, total bases, OPS and sacrifice flies. Gamble carries a career-best 17-game reached base streak into the weekend.
On Saturday, McKenzie Wagoner hit leadoff for the Mean Green and became the first UNT player to record a multi-hit game and win as a pitcher since 2019. In the circle, she spun a complete-game victory with five strikeouts. She finished the weekend 3-for-7 with four RBI, two runs and hit her first career home run.
Over the past seven games, Tatum Sparks leads UNT with a .400 batting average (8-for-20) and six runs scored. She has added three RBI, two doubles and a stolen base since March 31.
Ashley Peters helped North Texas to an undefeated record last week as she finished with a 2-0 record over 12 2/3 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts and a 1.66 ERA. She held the Miners to a .229 batting average and tallied only one walk in two appearances.
The Mean Green trail the all-time series 4-7 but won three of its four meetings last season including a 6-3 victory in the second round of the C-USA Championship at Lovelace Stadium on May 12, 2022.
