DENTON — UNT soccer head coach John Hedlund on Monday announced the signing of Oklahoma transfer forward Bailey Wesco. The 5-foot-11 rising junior played in 40 matches over the last two years for the Sooners and was a four-star prospect coming out of Midlothian in 2021.
Wesco this past season helped lead her then Sooner team to a 2022 Big 12 Semifinal appearance for the first time in six seasons — she earned the start in the semifinal match versus No. 15 TCU.
She scored two goals last season and put nine shots on target, which was the fourth-most on her team. Her 20 total shots were the fifth-most on Oklahoma. She notched 690 total minutes played last year (34.5 per match), including a season-high 60 minutes at No. 17 Texas on Oct. 27 in which she drew a foul in the box and OU was rewarded a penalty kick that they converted.
She will join the Mean Green with three career goals and three career starts. She has scored against Texas, Kansas State and Houston.
The forward is familiar with North Texas. She played against UNT in each of her two seasons at Oklahoma. She averaged 33 minutes per match versus the Mean Green, took three total shots, and assisted on a goal in their 2021 match that ended in a 2-2 draw in Norman.
Two years ago, Wesco was one of the top prospects coming out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
The 2021 Midlothian High School graduate who played her club soccer for the Dallas Texans ECNL was a four-star rated recruit by Top Drawer Soccer. In three seasons, Wesco made 60 career starts and scored 53 goals for the Lady Panthers.
An elite athlete, Wesco was the top goal scorer at the 2021 Girls Development Academy.
Wesco joins a Mean Green soccer recruiting class that includes 14 newcomers to next season's roster. She is the sixth of which that is a transfer. In addition to now Oklahoma, UNT has added transfers from Baylor, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Coastal Carolina to its roster.
Hedlund, who started the program in 1995, is entering his 29th season as the Mean Green's head coach. North Texas has won 16 conference championships and had zero losing seasons in the 28 previous years. UNT will make the move from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference next season.
