LOS ANGELES - Two former Mean Green golf standouts will tee it up at the U.S. Open beginning on Thursday at Los Angeles Country Club.
Sebastian Munoz and Carlos Ortiz, who were teammates at UNT a decade ago, are both now competing on the LIV Golf Tour after making the move in the past year from the PGA Tour but both have qualified for this year's U.S. Open. Munoz, who enters the event ranked 123rd in the world, will tee off from the first hole at 4:05 p.m. He will be paired for the first two rounds with Taylor Montgomery and Nick Taylor, who is coming off a win last week at the RBC Canadian Open when he sank a 72-foot putt to win a playoff and his home tournament.
Munoz is coming off a T4 finish in the most recent LIV event and will be playing in his fifth U.S. Open, with his best finish coming last year when he tied for 14th.
Ortiz is ranked No. 389 in the world and will be playing in his third U.S. Open, with his best finish coming in 2019 when he tied for 52nd. He'll tee off from the first hole at 2:26 p.m., and will be paired with Simon Forsstrom and amateur Maxwell Moldovan.
First-round action will be broadcast throughout the day, beginning at 8:40 a.m. and running through 10 p.m., on Peacock, USA and NBC.
