LUBBOCK, Texas — The undefeated UNT soccer team is back on the road to face Texas Tech on Thursday at the John Walker Complex.
Kickoff is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Through the first four matches of the year, the Mean Green (4-0-0) have outscored their opponents 12-1. They shutout their first three opponents, including two on the road. Thursday will be North Texas' first trip to Texas Tech (3-0-1) since 2019.
The Mean Green conceded their first goal of the year last Sunday in their 3-1 win over Texas A&M – Commerce. They went the first 298 minutes of the season before conceding the goal. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Ogden owns the nation's 28th-best save percentage at .938. On Thursday in Lubbock, North Texas will face a big challenge in the Red Raiders' Ashleigh Williams who heads into the match as the nation's leading goal scorer with seven on the year.
A win Thursday for UNT would improve its record to 5-0-0 on the year. It would be just the fourth time in program history the Mean Green have started a season with five straight wins. The program record for most consecutive wins to start a year is six in 2007.
All-time, the Mean Green are 4-7-1 versus the Red Raiders.
North Texas' first-ever match was at Texas Tech on Sept. 2, 1995.
After Thursday's match in Lubbock, the Mean Green will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to face Oral Roberts on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. UNT beat ORU 4-0 last year in Denton. Then freshman Kat Burnell scored a hat trick in just 12 minutes.
