Men's Golf Duo Set For LAAC Event

PANAMA CITY, Panama - A pair of UNT men's golfers will compete this week in the Latin America Amateur Championship at Santa Maria Golf Club in Panama with a chance to gain exemption into The Masters, the U.S. Open and The Open Championship on the line.
Sophomores Simon Roessler and Philippe Thorin will both be representing the Mean Green at the event, which runs from Thursday-Sunday and pits the best Latin American amateurs in the world against each other with the chance to earn a spot in three major championships, as well as The Amateur Championship and the U.S. Amateur. The runner-up gains exemptions into the U.S. Open Qualifying Series and The Open Qualifying Series, which puts them on the fast track to qualifying for the events.
"We're very excited to watch Philippe and Simon compete in the 2024 Latin American Amateur Championship," UNT head coach Luke Calcatera said. "This is an opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship while competing against the best Latin players in the world. Simon and Philippe are both trending right now and have been working really hard this offseason, and we're excited to see them represent UNT at this elite amateur event."
Roessler (Chile) will making his first appearance in the event, while it will be the third straight year Thorin (Ecuador) has played in it.
ESPN will provide three hours of live coverage per day and the event will also be broadcast live on LAACGolf.com.
