The Mean Green (7-5-5, 3-3-3) and Blazers (7-4-4, 4-2-3) are neck and neck in the standings. A win Thursday for North Texas propels them ahead of UAB into the fifth seed of the league's tournament that begins Nov. 4 from Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
If UNT draws or is defeated on Thursday they could be seeded anywhere between the sixth or eight seed of the tournament depending on other results around the conference.
Thursday's match at UAB is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
North Texas leads the all-time series history with the Blazers 5-3-1. However, Birmingham has not been a favorable road venue for the Mean Green who are aiming for their first road victory over the Blazers since 2016. UNT has lost its last two trips to Birmingham — in 2021 and 2019. UNT is 1-3-0 all-time at UAB opposed to 4-0-1 at home.
UAB is undefeated at home this season, which includes a 1-0 home win over Ole Miss on Sept. 5 and a 0-0 draw with Memphis on Sept. 19. The Mean Green also played to a scoreless draw against the nationally ranked Tigers at home on Sunday.
