DENTON - Junior diver Kamryn Wong, who joined the Mean Green this season after starting her collegiate career at Missouri, made a splash in her UNT debut over the weekend.
Wong competed in two meets over two days in New Mexico, against New Mexico and New Mexico State, and won all four events in which she competed in dominant fashion. For her efforts, Wong was named the American Athletic Conference Diving Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The conference award is the first for UNT since joining the conference prior to the 2022-23 season and the first conference diving weekly award since Saylor Hawkins won three in 2021-22, as a member of Conference USA.
At New Mexico, Wong won the 3M springboard with a score of 300.70, more than 40 points clear of second place. In the 1M, she won with a score of 293.60, which was more than 30 points better than second place. At New Mexico State, she won the 3M with a score of 273.53, which was nearly 40 points better than second place, and won the 1M with a score of 294.60, which was also almost 40 points better than second place. She achieved NCAA Zone cuts in both events.
"Kam had a tremendous weekend of competition," associate head coach/diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan said. "She knows how to turn it on in a meet and has great composure. She was super consistent over both days and started off the season on a strong note."
