DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team hosts Oregon State Monday night.
The Mean Green (4-1) and Beavers (4-1) are scheduled to tip-off from the Super Pit at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN+.
Monday will be the first time these two programs have ever met and will only be the third time North Texas has faced a Pac-12 opponent. It will be the first time they've hosted a Pac-12 opponent.
The Mean Green enter the contest coming off a 73-66 win over Texas Wesleyan on Thursday night to improve to 3-0 at home this season and 4-1 overall. Over the last 40 years, UNT has only five times started a season 5-1. Current North Texas head coach Ross Hodge has been part of two of those five seasons.
UNT once again has one of the nation's top defenses as they are holding opponents to just 57.2 points per game and forcing turnovers on 21 percent of possessions. Offensively, the Mean Green are led in scoring by senior Atin Wright who is averaging 13.2 points per game and shooting nearly 42 percent from 3-point range. Sixth man Johnathan Massie is second on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game and leads the team with a 6.6 rebounds per game average.
The Beavers head into Monday's matchup coming off a narrow home defeat to rival (RV) Oregon, 78-75. Oregon State led for over 32 minutes of the 40-minute game. They had a 10-point advantage at halftime and led by as many as 12 points with less than seven minutes to go. However, they were held to just 1-of-9 shooting to end the game. The Beavers' Michael Rataj nearly tied the game at the buzzer with a pullup 3-pointer, but his jumper rimmed out.
After Monday, the Mean Green won't return home for 23 days as they hit the road for Orlando for two games at the NIT Season Tip-Off Nov. 28-29 and then High Point, North Carolina, to face High Point on Dec. 6. They return home on Dec. 18 to host Mississippi Valley State.
