Mean Green Begin NIT Season Tip Off Thursday

KISSIMMEE, FL — The UNT men's basketball team begins the 2024 NIT Season Tip Off from the State Farm Field House in Kissimmee, Florida on Thursday.
They'll start the two-game tournament versus Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPNU. North Texas will then play either St. Bonaventure or (RV) Utah State on Friday to conclude the tournament.
The Mean Green (5-1) head into the event riding a two-game winning streak. They defeated Oregon State at home on Monday, 58-55. UNT enters Thursday with the nation's sixth-best scoring defense, holding opponents to just 56.8 points per game. This is the second time in the last three years North Texas has begun a year 5-1.
On Thursday North Texas will face a UNI (3-2) team that they opened last season against. The Mean Green beat the Panthers 83-77 (OT) last year. UNI, like the Mean Green, went on to win 19 games last season. On Thursday they will be playing their first game in over a week but own one of the most effective offenses in the nation.
UNT is 1-1 all-time versus UNI.
After the NIT Season Tip Off the Mean Green will have a week break before traveling to High Point on Dec. 6.
