Soccer Begins Conference Championship Monday

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida — The UNT women's soccer team begins its attempt at a 17th conference title on Monday when they face South Florida in the quarterfinals of the eight-team American Athletic Conference Championship.
Kickoff for the Mean Green's quarterfinal match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT and it will be broadcast on ESPN+.
North Texas (7-5-6, 3-3-4) is the tournament's No. 7 seed as they finished the conference slate with 13 league points. They had wins for Florida Atlantic, Temple, Tulsa and had a crucial draw late in the season with No. 16 Memphis who was unbeaten against conference opponents.
UNT opens the tournament on Monday and faces the tournament's No. 2 seed South Florida (11-2-4, 6-1-3). The Mean Green fell 2-1to USF on Oct. 20 but outshot the Bulls and controlled a possession for a solid amount.
Monday North Texas will be aiming for the program's first ever win over South Florida in what will be just the third all-time meeting between the two opponents.
The winner of Monday's quarterfinal match will face the winner of East Carolina and Charlotte in the semifinals on Thursday at 3 p.m. CT. It will also be broadcast on ESPN+.
