The Mean Green had athletes at three different meets over the weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – The UNT Track & Field team wrapped up its regular season slate for indoor competition Friday and Saturday.
The majority of the team competed at the Jarvis Scott Open hosted by Texas Tech, while KeAyla Dove went to the Tyson Invitational for shot put and four distance runners traveled to the Husky Classic in Seattle.
"I thought overall we stayed very consistent in our performances," head coach Doug Marshall said. "I think that we did well and excelled in certain areas and we have some work to do in others. I thought our youth definitely showed when it was time to line up and compete against some of the nation's best and we have to be better. Moving forward we have to be confident in who we are as a team and what we are capable of and compete that way. I'm really looking forward to these next couple of weeks and preparing for our first American conference meet."
Dove placed second in the shot put against some of the best throwers in the country at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Entering Saturday, Dove had won the previous three meets she had entered in, but finished runner-up with a distance of 17.71 meters.
Out on the West Coast, Mason Garner and Luke Canon each set personal-best times in the mile at the Husky Classic. Canon placed 30th with a time of 4:06.53, while Garner clocked a time of 4:08.58. Similarly, Trinity Trotter and Aditi Silwal shattered their previous marks in the women's mile. Trotter clocked a 4:58.77 to improve from her previous best of 5:14.56, while Silwal went from 5:09.70 to 5:01.52 at the Husky Classic.
True freshman Jake Dorrell led the Mean Green at the Jarvis Scott Open clearing a personal-best height of 5.01 meters in a runner-up finish in the pole vault. Indyia Walton and Jordan Coates-McBride also set personal bests in their events joined Dorrell in setting personal bests on Friday night.
On the second day of competition in Lubbock, Brenna Zerby and Tiblets Abreha each improved their best times in the women's mile with Zerby clocking a 5:27.91 and Silwal finishing in 5:31.13.
A trio of freshmen jumpers had solid meets in Lubbock, including Armando Acevedo who placed eighth in the high jump. In the triple jump, Ayden Thompson recorded a new personal-best mark of 14.10 meters and Elyjah Walker went 13.87 meters in his collegiate debut.
