
Softball Set for UNT Invite

DENTON, Texas – Mean Green softball welcomes four teams to the UNT Invite on Friday at Lovelace Stadium. North Texas (3-5) will meet New Mexico (3-9) at 4:30 p.m. and Minnesota (4-3) at 7 p.m. on day one of the three-day tournament. All games can be followed at meangreenstats.com.
Session one will begin on Friday morning at 9 a.m. with Texas Tech (7-3) and Stephen F. Austin (2-8) before the Lumberjacks meet the Lobos at 11:30 a.m. In a Power Five matchup, the Red Raiders and Golden Gophers square off at 2 p.m.
The tournament will be broken into five ticketing sessions with Lovelace Stadium cleared of all fans after the initial three games on Friday and Saturday. UNT plays in session two, four and five. For full tournament schedule and ticket information, please visit our Tournament Central page.
The UNT Invite marks the second time in program history in which the Mean Green have hosted multiple Power Five teams at a home tournament. In 2013, the Lovelace Invitational featured Iowa (Big Ten) and Oklahoma State (Big XII).
North Texas dropped three of four games last weekend at the Tracy Beard College Classic and looks to rebound during its extended homestand.
The Mean Green will open a six-game weekend with New Mexico on Friday and are set for a rematch on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. North Texas holds a 3-1 record over the Lobos with the last meeting on Feb. 25, 2005.
Friday marks the first meeting between UNT and Minnesota after the Golden Gophers secured its 10-consecutive appearance to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
Texas Tech visits Lovelace Stadium for the first time since April 27, 2016, after head coach Rodney DeLong led North Texas to a series victory over the Red Raiders in March 2022. The two teams are scheduled to play on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Historically, UNT holds a combined 27-17 record over the four teams that will visit Denton this weekend, including an 11-game winning streak over SFA who the Mean Green will meet in the final game of the tournament on Sunday at 2 p.m.
