DENTON — UNT soccer head coach John Hedlund has hired Austen Parker to be his new goalkeeper coach ahead of the 2024 fall season, which will be his 30th with the Mean Green.
Parker comes to North Texas after serving as the goalkeeper coach at Central Oklahoma. Prior to UCO, Parker was at Southwestern Christian University for two seasons. He has also coached club programs such as the Oklahoma Rangers and Oklahoma Celtic.
"We are excited to welcome Austen to our coaching staff for this upcoming season," Hedlund said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise as a former All American goalkeeper. Our goalkeepers will benefit greatly from his high energy coaching style and passion for the game."
Parker played at NAIA Mid-American Christian University where he was a NCCAA All-American and led MACU to a NCCAA National Championship.
In 2019 Parker put together a historic season in net, setting three single season MACU records in wins (20), shutouts (13) and goals allowed average (0.9). Parker finished the season with 67 saves for a 0.753 save percentage, the fourth-best clip in program history. After conceding two goals in the first match of pool play at the NCCAA National Championships, Parker spearheaded a defense that did not give up a single goal in the final three matches to come away with the championship win.
That year he led Mid-America Christian to a highly successful 2019 season with a 20-3-1 overall record as the best ever finish in league play with a 7-1-1 conference mark. On top of winning its first ever NCCAA National Championship, the Evangels won their first regional championship since 2013.
