SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey — The UNT men's basketball is set to face Seton Hall on Saturday in the second round of the 2024 NIT.
The Mean Green (19-14), who are the reigning NIT champions, and the Pirates (21-12), who are this year's tournament's No. 1 seed, are scheduled to tip-off at 10:30 a.m. CT from SHU's historic Walsh Gymnasium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
North Texas is coming off an 84-77 win at LSU in the NIT First Round on Tuesday. The 84 points tied a Mean Green single-game high as they won their sixth straight NIT game. Junior guard CJ Noland scored a team-high 21 points to lead UNT to the victory.
Noland was one of four Mean Green players to score in double figures in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Seton Hall defeated Saint Joseph's in overtime at home on Wednesday, 75-72, in its first-round game. The Pirates got 26 points from guard Al-Amir Dawes in the overtime win.
Saturday will be just the second all-time meeting between North Texas and Seton Hall. They last played on Dec. 13, 1980, in Provo, Utah. Seton Hall won 89-78.
The Pirates are led by head coach Shaheen Holloway who famously led Saint Peter's to the 2022 Elite Eight, becoming the first 15-seed to ever reach the round. Holloway became Seton Hall's head coach following the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Saturday will not be Holloway's first career game against the Mean Green. In 2018, Holloway was in his first season as Saint Peter's head coach. The Peacocks lost 75-66 at the Super Pit to UNT.
