DENTON, Texas – UNT head volleyball coach Kristee Porter completed her staff with assistant Carissa Barnes, the program announced on Monday. After a decorated four-year playing career at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Barnes was a member of the 2023 NCAA National Championship team at the University of Texas.
"I couldn't be more excited to have Carissa join the UNT volleyball staff," Porter said. "Her résumé as a player is impressive, and her on-court leadership and winning mentality will be valuable additions to our program."
In four seasons at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Barnes was a three-time AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention selection and three-time Southland Conference Libero of the Year. She was named to the SLC All-Conference team in each of her four seasons, including three consecutive first-team honors.
While leading the Islanders to three SLC titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances, Barnes earned a Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude in kinesiology in May 2023. She also secured three Southland All-Academic First Team selections while at A&M-Corpus Christi.
Most recently, Barnes served as an assistant coach at Club Texas Volleyball in Fort Worth, Texas.
Prior to her collegiate career, she led Weatherford High School to two area championships and four district titles. Barnes earned all-district honors in each of her four seasons, including the district MVP award as a junior. She was also named academic all-district each year.
