Freshman from Kharkiv, Ukraine, finished the week with a perfect record in both singles and doubles
DENTON, Texas – After finishing the week with a perfect record and helping the Mean Green knock off a ranked opponent for the first time since 2016, Stanislava Shulzhenko was named The American Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week.
Shulzhenko, who was honored alongside Darya Schwartzman (Rice), garnered the award for the first time in her career and joins Stadfany Nformi as one of two UNT players to win the accolade in the last four weeks.
In a doubleheader sweep on Saturday against No. 70 UTSA and Cowley County, Shulzhenko won all four matches she competed in (two doubles, two singles)
In doubles play, Shulzhenko teamed up with Olivia Malm for two wins at line one with a 6-2 win over UTSA and a 6-4 win victory over Cowley.
Against UTSA, Shulzhenko was dominant in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Vittoria Baccino at line three. She followed it up with a 6-0, 6-4 victory playing at line one against Cowley.
The wins over the Roadrunners helped UNT give the Mean Green its first victory over a ranked squad in seven years.
With two weekly award winners this season, North Texas matches SMU for the most thus far in the AAC.
