DENTON — The 16-time conference champion UNT soccer team and its head coach John Hedlund announced the hiring of assistant coach Dejan "Milo" Milosevic on Thursday.
Milosevic comes to the Mean Green from Hill College where he served as the men's head coach last season. Milosevic has nearly two decades of coaching experience of both men and women's soccer. He's coached at both the club and college levels. Additionally, he played collegiate as well as professional soccer and represented his home country of Serbia in international competitions.
At Hill College last season, Milosevic turned around the program from a losing season and guided the Rebels to a region championship and were just one win away from a NJCAA DI National Tournament appearance. Eight different Rebels earned postseason accolades.
Prior to his time at Hill College, Milosevic served as the head women's soccer coach at NAIA LSU Shreveport in 2022 where once again he took over a program that had previously had a losing season and then led the Pilots to a .617 winning percentage. LSUS women's soccer student-athletes posted a 3.42 team grade point average that season.
Milosevic was the associate head men's soccer coach at his alma mater Texas Wesleyan from 2018-21 where he helped the Rams make a seven-win improvement.
As a student-athlete at Texas Wesleyan, Milosevic was a two-time All-Red River Athletic Conference honoree and was awarded the RRAC Defensive Player of the Year award as a junior. He led the Rams to their first NAIA National Tournament appearance and set the school's single season record for goals.
He has also served as the executive director and director of coaching for adolescent club teams such as Dallas Surf Soccer Club, Sting Socccer Club, Fort Worth FC, the Dallas Texans Soccer Club and Texas Eagles.
Milosevic played professionally for the Dallas Sidekicks. Hedlund also played for the Sidekicks from 1987-1995 before starting the UNT women's soccer program in the fall of 1995.
The 2024 UNT soccer regular season begins on Aug. 15 with a home opener versus Oklahoma. Two days later the Mean Green host Alabama on Aug. 17.
