DENTON - The UNT men's golf team will play in some familiar events in the 2024-25 season after a mostly new schedule a year ago, will travel out of the continental U.S. twice and will once again host the Maridoe Intercollegiate before a postseason that will start with its second appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Second-year head coach Luke Calcatera announced the slate will begin with an early start to the season as the team heads back to Island Resort Intercollegiate in Harris, Michigan, on Sept. 1-2, before a quick turnaround to the Argent Financial Classic in Choudrant, Louisiana, a week later.
The Mean Green, who will feature six new golfers - two freshmen and four transfers - will round out the four-tournament fall schedule in October with trips to Dallas for the Trinity Forest Invitational and the Everett Buick GMC Classic in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The team will play six spring events leading up to The American Championship in Orlando, including its final tuneup event in Bryan, Texas, at The Aggie Invitational on April 12-13. UNT will host another edition of the Maridoe Intercollegiate at its home course, Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, on March 31 and April 1.
The team will also take return trips to Houston's All-American Intercollegiate in the Houston area and Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate, which will take place in Thomasville, Georgia. The first two events of the spring season will be February trips to Cancun, Mexico and to Puerto Rico for events hosted by UTRGV and UNC-Greensboro, respectively.
"Our goal is to create a schedule that will provide an opportunity for our players to play every week against the best players in the country," Calcatera said. "Looking forward, I know we have made a lot of progress toward that adding events at Houston, Texas A&M, Florida State, and SMU in the 2024-25 season. We have a great opportunity ahead of us and will always look to play in the best events in Texas every year. In the second year of the Maridoe Intercollegiate, we have also added new teams such as Alabama, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arizona State, and Baylor."
