
Volleyball Drops Five-Set Loss to Cal Poly

LAS VEGAS – UNT volleyball fought back from a two-set deficit but fell short to lose 3-2 versus Cal Poly on Friday at Cox Pavilion.
The Mean Green (2-6) set season-high marks with 170 attacks and 77 digs in the second five-set match (22-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-20, 8-15) of the season while the Mustangs (5-3) committed 15 service errors, the most against a UNT opponent this season.
Claire Dewine, Coco Gillett and Aryn Johnson each posted a team-high mark of 11 kills while Gillett, Nylah Raspberry and Kamryn Scroggins all recorded double-doubles. Junior Alexa Washington led the team with a season-high 18 assists while Raspberry set a career-high mark of 22 digs.
UNT ambushed Cal Poly early in the first set with a 15-11 lead and held its advantage before the Mustangs closed the frame on a 9-2 run and secured the set win.
The Mean Green overcame a six-point deficit in the second to tie the frame at 16-16 but Poly regained a lead late to claim the set and take a two-set lead.
Down 2-0 in the match, Gillett starred in a third set win with five kills including a pair during a late run to pull back a set for the Mean Green.
Despite an early 5-0 deficit, UNT rode an 8-2 run to level the match at 2-2 with Dewine dropping four kills. In the fifth, the Mean Green were unable to gain a lead to fall short of the reverse sweep.
