Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak To Seven In Row

ABILENE, Texas —The UNT soccer team drew 0-0 at Abilene Christian Sunday afternoon in its final non-conference match of the season.
The Mean Green (5-2-2) extend their unbeaten streak to seven in a row with the result and have now shutout their last four opponents and six total during this seven-match unbeaten streak.
"A disappointing result for us considering we should have been up 3-0 at the half," said head coach John Hedlund. "I've never seen three shots saved off their goal line by defenders. Sunday games are never easy especially on the road, running in the heat and playing one of your conference rivals in a physical battle just on the prior Thursday. Good news is we didn't lose today and our defense played great once again but it would be nice if our offense could match our defensive consistent play, if that happens no telling how far this team can go this year."
Sunday, senior UNT goalkeeper Maddie Ogden was huge for her side as she made a single match career-best nine saves including stopping an ACU (2-1-5) penalty kick in the 74th minute. Ogden faced a career-high 21 shots from the Wildcats but was unphased to lead the Mean Green defense to another shutout.
On the attack, North Texas had opportunities, especially in the first half, but just couldn't put away shots. Twice in the first half, the Mean Green had the Wildcats' defense scrambling in the 18-yard box but would either have a good look at a shot saved or blocked by an ACU defender.
UNT is back in action Thursday as they hit the road to face conference mate Tulsa. The Mean Green opened conference last Thursday with a 1-0 home win over Florida Atlantic. UNT and the Golden Hurricanes drew 2-2 last year in Denton. Thursday's match at Tulsa is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. CT.
