The UNT women's golf team will head north to the Sunflower State to open up the 2024-25 season at the Powecat Classic, hosted by Kansas State.

Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 16 teams participating in the tournament: Austin Peay, Bethune-Cookman, Bowling Green, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, Dayton, Houston Christian, Jacksonville State, Kansas State, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Southern Miss, UIW, UNT, UTRGV and Wichita State.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT:Â Competing for the Mean Green will be Shreya Pal, Malisone Chanthapanya, Katharina Anglett, Mason Lewis and Bouquet Subsomboon. Chandler Browning will be competing as an individual, in her first time making the travel team.
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on Scoreboard by Clippd. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.
AKERS SAYS: "I am very familiar with Colbert Hills and we have been doing our best to prepare," head coach Michael Akers said. "The wind typically blows there but the overall forecast for the week looks good. We played at K-State back in 2018 and took third, and the next year we finished runner-up so I'm hoping we will win this year. With the new .500 rule it is important to pick up wins.
"Bouquet and Mali have been very solid during qualifying. Shreya started off slow but has really looked sharp in the past few rounds. We are very excited that Chandler qualified to travel. She has worked incredibly hard over the past three years and has really elevated her game. I think everyone on the team cheers for her as she displays a great work ethic."
MOVING UP: UNT has made significant strides since Akers took over eight years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally and have qualified for four straight NCAA Regionals and won three straight conference championships before moving to The American last year.
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will head back to Oklahoma on Sept. 21-23, at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.Â
Â
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
