ARDMORE, Oklahoma – The UNT women's golf team hosts Murray State College Friday for the 2026 Bruzzy Challenge at Dornick Hills in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
North Texas enters the dual competition ranked No. 61 in the nation and on the verge of a potential at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Friday's tournament is the Mean Green's last competition before the 2026 American Conference Tournament, which is hosted in Brooksville, Florida April 20-22. A conference championship earns a team an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Malisone Chanthapanya is coming off a runner-up performance at the MountainView Collegiate where she helped lead her Mean Green to a fourth-place finish in one of the most loaded fields they'll face all season.
The Event: The Bruzzy Challenge is named after proud North Texas alum and donor Bruzzy Westheimer who is a native of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and helped redesign the course. The teams will play one round of match play.
The Field: All eight North Texas players will compete in Friday's dual competition held at Dornick Hills.
Results: Results will be posted in a recap on MeanGreenSports.com following the event. There will be no live scoring for this event.
Akers Says: "We are excited to play our match at Dornick Hills on Friday. This match is special because, it is taking place on Bruzzy Westheimer's home course that was just renovated back to the original Perry Maxwell design. Bruzzy was instrumental in that redesign. Bruzzy has been the top donor for the UNT golf teams over the past 10 years. He also has helped Murray State build a facility in recent years. We are all grateful to Bruzzy's continued commitment to supporting college golf. This event is match play which is different and will be a great experience. The golf course has some similarities to our conference championship course, so this is a great warmup."
