GREENVILLE, North Carolina — The UNT men's basketball team returns to Minges Coliseum on Tuesday nearly a year ago to the day from when they had one of the most dramatic game winners in recent Mean Green history.
North Texas (11-4, 2-1) and East Carolina (9-8, 1-3) are scheduled to tip-off on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN+.
Last season at East Carolina UNT beat the Pirates 60-59 on a full-court-in-bound pass by Aaron Scott and catch and game-winning layup by Robert Allen in the game's final second. Neither team led by more than seven points and there were eight lead changes in the one-point Mean Green win.
The Mean Green swept the Pirates last season as they also beat them at the Super Pit 84-69 later in the season.
UNT leads the all-time series history against ECU, 4-1. They have won three in a row over the Pirates.
North Texas enters Tuesday's game having won five of its last six games and most recently beat Rice at home, 81-59. Its largest margin of victory over a conference opponent under second-year head coach Ross Hodge. UNT's lone loss in the last month came on the road against nationally ranked Memphis, 68-64.
The Pirates most recently played the same Memphis team on the road and also only lost by four points. They nearly made a double-digit comeback against the nationally ranked Tigers. ECU has lost four of its last five, but all five games have been decided by single digits.
Tuesday's game at East Carolina begins a two-game road swing for the Mean Green. They travel to UTSA on Saturday before returning home to host Temple on Jan. 22.
