GREENVILLE, North Carolina — The UNT men's basketball team outscored East Carolina 42-27 in the second half to beat the Pirates Tuesday night on the road, 69-60.
The Mean Green (12-4, 3-1) got a season-high 22 points from Atin Wright who also knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers to lead his side to their second straight win. He has scored 43 total points in the last two games combined.
ECU (9-9, 1-4) got a heroic performance from their all-conference guard RJ Felton who scored 30 points and matched Wright with six 3-pointers.
"We have a ton of respect for East Carolina and coach Schwartz," said Mean Green head coach Ross Hodge. "In the second half I thought the difference was we only had two turnovers, did a great job rebounding and got to the free throw line."
North Texas trailed 33-27 at the half and had nine first half turnovers, but a 5-0 run to open the second half got the Mean Green going and a 12-0 run midway through the second half gave them the lead with 8:30 to go and they never looked back from there.
On one offensive possession in the second half, senior Rondel Walker grabbed three offensive rebounds, which ended with a Wright made 3-pointer that was a back breaker for ECU. Walker finished with just one point but had five offensive rebounds.
Junior Brenen Lorient had 18 points, his third straight game with at least 18 points.
Moulaye Sissoko was also in double figures as he had 10 points and finished with six rebounds.
Next up for the Mean Green is another road trip as they head to UTSA on Saturday for a 3 p.m. CT tip.
