SAN ANTONIO — The UNT men's basketball team held UTSA to a season-low scoring output Saturday as they beat the Roadrunners 72-57 at the Convocation Center to win its third in a row and second in a row on the road.
The Mean Green (13-4, 4-1) got another 20-point performance from senior Atin Wright who finished with 22 points and sank five 3-pointers. During North Texas' current three-game winning streak, Wright is averaging 21.6 points per game and shooting 57.7 percent from deep (15-26).
"We have a ton of respect for UTSA and coach Claunch," said UNT head coach Ross Hodge. "They made it really difficult for us in the second half with the pressure they can bring. It didn't help that we added to it with some mistakes but our composure was what got us the win. I'm really proud of our team."
UNT held the Roadrunners (8-9, 2-3) leading scorer Primo Spears to just six points and 1-14 shooting. Spears entered Saturday averaging 21.7 points per game, which ranked near the top in the nation.
In addition to Wright's 22 points, Moulaye Sissoko and Brenen Lorient combined for 26 points — 13 each — and had 15 of their team's 37 rebounds. Johnathan Massie got his first start of the year on Saturday and finished with 10 points and had seven rebounds to go along with a season-high four assists.
UNT returns home on Wednesday to host Temple at the Super Pit.
