DENTON, Texas – The UNT track and field teams are set to begin the indoor season on Friday at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
"I'm looking forward to this weekend's meet at Arkansas and I know our athletes are excited to kick things off," head coach Doug Marshall said. "We have high expectations this season and it all starts with week one. It's a great opportunity to get our younger athletes some early reps and newcomers an opportunity to start their seasons off right.
The teams will feature many new faces during the season, but Victor Neiva's return to the track is a welcomed addition. Neiva is coming off another stellar cross country season that saw him earn the fourth all-conference and all-region honors of his career. After sitting out the indoor and outdoor season in 2023-24, Neiva is expected to run the 3,000 meters on Friday.
Jake Parchman is another returner on the men's side with high expectations for the year ahead. The school record holder in the weight throw, Parchman narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish at the 2024 AAC Indoor Championships.
On the women's side, a fairly young group will be headed to Fayetteville, including several freshmen who will be making their collegiate debuts. In addition, a trio of distance runners coming off cross country season will make their season debuts on the track in Betty Bajika, London Culbreath and Trinity Trotter.
Friday will mark the start of the program's third season under Marshall's leadership. In the past two seasons, he has led the Mean Green through the transition from Conference USA into the American Athletic Conference and helped four athletes advance to the NCAA Championships.
