DALLAS – Alex Huang carded his best round of the season thus far to lead the UNT men's golf team in the first round of the Trinity Forest Invitational Sunday.
Huang nearly had a clean sheet with his only blemish coming on the par-5 16th hole. The sophomore took advantage of the four easiest holes on the course, collecting birdies at holes 2, 5, 10 and 14.
Kalle Svederman joined Huang in red figures as he posted a 1-under-par 71 to land in ____ place after 18 holes. His round got off to a rocky start with two bogeys in the first four holes, but the veteran found his groove after that shooting 3-under par the rest of the day.
Noah Blaickner was 1-under through 10 holes but was plagued by three bogeys down the home stretch to fall to 2-over par. Blake Keen's score of 75 was the fourth and final counting score for the Mean Green with Mitchell Maier posting a 76.
True freshman Rayhan Latief recorded the best day of his young career playing as an individual. He finished the day with three birdies and an eagle on the 16th hole, which played as the third toughest hole in the first round, on his way to match Svederman's 71 at 1-under par.
North Texas will begin the second round of the Trinity Forest Invitational in ninth place in the team standings. The Mean Green will tee off Monday morning with live scoring available throughout the tournament on Clippd.
