DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team will open the 2025-26 season, and the 50th season in program history, Monday night against Oklahoma Christian at 5:30 p.m. CT inside The Super Pit.
Head coach Jason Burton has led the Mean Green to the two winningest seasons in program history to start his tenure, recording 23 wins in 2024 and 25 victories last season. However, he enters his third year facing a new challenge with 11 newcomers on the roster – the eighth most in Division I.
I'm extremely excited to start Monday and kickoff the 50th season of UNT women's basketball," Burton said. "I've been able to be a part of the 50th season of the Super Pit and now season 50 of women's basketball here. There are a lot of new faces this year, but we have an incredible group of women that have been working extremely hard. We are ready to show our fans this year's team and kick off another great year of Mean Green Women's Basketball."
Senior forward Megan Nestor headlines the group of new faces after a decorated career at Wayland Baptist. On Friday, Nestor was named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award Preseason Top 20 Watchlist, joining Tommisha Lampkin as only the second player in program history to make the list.
Monday's matchup will be the first official contest against Oklahoma Christian, although the teams have met before in an exhibition contest prior to the 2023-24 season. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Owen Simpson and Brian Burton on the call. It can also be heard on the Varsity Network App with Sam Kaman.
Tickets for Monday's season opener can be found here. The ticket will work for both games of the doubleheader with the North Texas men's team set to host New Mexico Highlands 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game.
