DENTON – The UNT men's basketball team defeated Central Arkansas on Thursday night at Super Pit, 74-56 for its ninth straight home win.
The Mean Green (4-2) were led in scoring by senior Josiah Shackleford who poured in a game-high 15 on just eight shots. Shackleford was one of four North Texas players to score in double figures. David Terrell Jr. and Je'Shawn Stevenson combined for 26 and Reece Robinson nearly had a double-double as he finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
"Central Arkansas came in here prepared," said head coach Daniyal Robinson. "I thought in the first half we did a good job defensively holding them to 26 points. We had to figure things out offensively in the second half but give our guys credit for figuring it out by picking up our pace."
UNT led by just two at the half but outscored the Bears (1-4) by 16 in the final 20 minutes and finished the game making its final six shot attempts.
In addition to his scoring, Stevenson grabbed a career-high six rebounds to go along with two steals. North Texas forced UCA into 19 turnovers, 13 of which were steals.
Next up for North Texas is another home game as they host Eastern Washington on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT at the Super Pit.
