Arnett's Buzzer Beater Lifts Mean Green Over Loyola Chicago

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Illinois — UNT men's basketball senior Dylan Arnett sank a game-winning mid-range jumper to lift the Mean Green to a 64-62 victory over Loyola Chicago Sunday at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and to stay undefeated on the young season.
Arnett, a Chicago native who grew up just an hour away from where he made his game winner on Tuesday, finished with 10 points. Fellow Chicago native Je'Shawn Stevenson matched his single game career high on Sunday as he scored 23, which led all scorers.
"I'm super proud of this group," said UNT head coach Daniyal Robinson of his team who withstood a double digit second half comeback by Loyola Chicago. "A ton of credit to (Loyola Chicago) coach Drew Valentine and their team. They have a great team and fought back but we stuck together, and Dylan came up big."
The Mean Green (3-0) took a 14-point lead into the half but quickly saw that lead disappear in the second half when the Ramblers (1-2) went on a 9-0 run. With 10 minutes remaining Loyola Chicago took its first lead since the very beginning of the game. They stretched their second half lead to five points with six minutes remaining. The final six minutes was a back and forth affair that finished with UNT getting the final look.
And Arnett didn't miss.
This marks just the fifth time this millennium the Mean Green have started a season 3-0.
UNT will remain on the road as they travel to Oregon State on Wednesday to face an undefeated Beavers team in Corvallis, Oregon. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on KHYI 95.3 FM and on ESPN+.
