FORT WORTH – For the first time since 2004 the UNT men's basketball team will face its most commonly played opponent TCU.
The Mean Green (7-2), riding a four-game winning streak, will take on the Horned Frogs (5-3) Sunday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on KHYI 95.3 FM.
The game will be the second game of a double header at Dickies Arena. Texas Tech and LSU will tip-off at 2 p.m.
Sunday will be the 75th all-time meeting between North Texas and TCU. They have not played one another since 2004 when TCU beat the Mean Green 88-78 at the Super Pit. Sunday will be the first time the two teams will play not on campus.
Since 2020
Since the start of the 2020-21 season, North Texas has won 127 total games. Only 15 teams in the country have won more over the last five-plus seasons. Daniyal Robinson is UNT's third different head coach since the start of the 2020-21 season: Grant McCasland, Ross Hodge and Robinson. Drake, who has won 143 games since 2020, is the only team with more wins than UNT and has also had three different head coaches since 2020: Darian DeVries, Ben McCollum, Eric Henderson.
David Dimes
UNT junior guard David Terrell Jr. has 51 assists through the Mean Green's first nine games of this year. His 51 assists are the most by a UNT player through the first nine games of a year since Pat Hicks in 1982 who had 58 that season. Terrell has had 19 assists over the Mean Green's last two games. It's the most assists over a two-game span since Ryan Woolridge in 2018. Terrell has an assist rate of 40.5 percent, which ranks 14th in the nation as of Saturday. Assist rate = is the percentage of FGs assisted by a player when they're on the floor.
11 Straight Makes
North Texas forward Josiah Shackleford hasn't missed a shot over the Mean Green's last two games. He was 5-5 from the floor versus Prairie View A&M and 6-6 from the floor versus Houston Christian on Tuesday. He's the first Mean Green player in over 20 seasons to have back-to-back games shooting 100 percent from the floor (min 5 attempts). As of Saturday he's the only player in the nation this year to do it.
Seven Straight In Double Figures
UNT sophomore guard Je'Shawn Stevenson enters Sunday having scored in double figures in seven straight games. It's the first time in his career he's scored in double figures in seven straight games. Over the last seven games Stevenson is averaging 18.5 points per game.
