DENTON - Junior diver Kamryn Wong continued to etch her name in the program record books by earning her third American Athletic Conference Diving Athlete of the Week award this season and second in as many opportunities.
This time, she was joined by freshman teammate Amelia Sharp, who earned Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week honors, as the Mean Green swept the diving weekly honors. It marks Sharp's first conference award of her young career.
Wong won both springboard events at the Mean Green's regular season finale on Saturday when they defeated Little Rock on Senior Day. She won the 1-meter with a 302.85 and took the 3-meter with a 307.50. Sharp took second in the 3-meter with a NCAA Zone Cut score of 293.85 and got third in the 1-meter with a 259.13.
"We really finished the regular season with a bang," associate head coach/diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan said. "There were many great performances by all but especially by Kam, who won both boards, and Amelia who not only got a PR on both boards but also got another zone cut finishing second and third, respectively. I can't wait for next week at conference. Our dive squad this year is collectively strong, as individuals and as a team, and we have a great opportunity ahead."
The Mean Green will return to action on Feb. 19-22, when they will compete in the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Robson and Lindley Aquatic Center at SMU in Dallas.Â
