Elizabeth Moffitt tallied clutch hits as UNT clinched a winning weekend at The Snowman
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Anneca Anderson spun a complete-game shutout as UNT beat Bradley 8-0 in six innings before Skylar Savage recorded her second complete-game win of the weekend as the Mean Green posted a 6-4 comeback victory over Georgia Tech on Sunday at Nusz Park.
The game one shutout against the Braves (2-8) marked the first of the season for UNT (8-2) after it set a new program record of 13 last season. In game two, North Texas tallied its fifth comeback win of the year with the victory over the Yellow Jackets (7-2) and matched its best 10-game record in program history.
Anderson enjoyed her longest outing of the season with six innings pitched as she collected her fourth complete-game shutout of her career. She finished with a season-high mark of four strikeouts while she allowed three hits and three walks.
UNT opened the scoring in the first inning as Cierra Simon crossed the plate on a groundout to give Kailyn Bearpaw her team-leading ninth RBI of the season.
Bradley committed three errors in the top of the second inning including one on a sacrifice bunt from freshman Sofia Schow that resulted in her standing on third base and scoring Madison Conley. The next batter was fellow freshman Taylor Platt who drove in Schow with an RBI single to flip the lineup card back to the top of the order and tally two additional runs for a 5-0 lead.
Despite Braves' runners reaching base in all six innings, Anderson held Bradley in check as evidenced when she recorded the final two outs of the fourth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
In the sixth inning, sophomore Elizabeth Moffitt lifted the Mean Green into run-rule territory with a three-run home run, her first since April 7, 2024, for the final score line of 8-0.
In game two, North Texas turned to Savage in the circle, and she delivered a seven-inning complete game, the 22nd complete game of her career. She finished with four strikeouts while she allowed seven hits, three walks and four earned runs.
Down four runs in the top of the third inning, the Mean Green opened its account with an RBI double from Tatum Sparks that resulted in her crossing home plate on a throwing error later on the play. For the weekend, Sparks finished 10-for-18 with six runs scored, six RBI and three extra-base hits.
After scoring another run in the fifth, Moffitt converted a clutch two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning to give UNT a one-run lead. After the Yellow Jackets loaded the bases, Riley McNemar tallied an RBI on a walk for the sixth and final run of the game.
