Softball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader

ARLINGTON, Texas – UNT softball recorded a pair of run-rule wins with a 12-0 victory over Yale in five innings before a 10-2 win in six innings against Northwestern State on Saturday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mean Green (10-2) scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games for the first time since April 16, 2024, when it tallied a doubleheader sweep of East Texas A&M on the road.
Skylar Savage (W, 5-0) held the Bulldogs (0-2) scoreless on one hit over four innings with four strikeouts before Mackenzie Childers tallied three strikeouts in the fifth to finish the game.
Senior Cierra Simon collected her 50th career stolen base in the bottom of the first inning to tie Kelli Schkade (2015-17) for the program record after reaching base on a single.
In the third, UNT exploded for 10 runs including back-to-back home runs from Riley McNemar and Tatum Sparks. The third inning total marks the third-highest frame in program history after UNT scored 12 against both Memphis on April 20, 2024, and Boise State on Feb. 7, 2015.
In game two, North Texas jumped out to a seven-run lead against Northwestern State (1-10) highlighted by a grand slam by Elizabeth Moffitt in the second inning. She finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and six RBI to become sixth player in program history with six-plus RBI in a game.
Starting pitcher Anneca Anderson (W, 5-2) tallied a six-inning complete game with five strikeouts and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks. After the second inning, she allowed only one base runner on a fielding error in the fifth.
Rylee Nicholson reached base in all four at-bats as she finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Simon opened the scoring with a two-run home run as the second batter of the contest.

North Texas will close the Boerner Invitational versus Yale at 11:30 a.m. and UT Arlington at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday from Allan Saxe Field. ESPN+ will provide streaming coverage of game two against the hosting Mavericks.
