Tennis Wraps Louisiana Weekend with Win Over Northwestern State

North Texas defeated the Lady Demons 6-1 Sunday afternoon
DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team closed the weekend in Louisiana with a 6-1 victory over Northwestern State Sunday at the Jack Fisher Lady Demons Tennis Complex.
North Texas (4-3) split the weekend after losing to Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
"It's good to walk away from the weekend with a win," UNT head coach Amanda Stone said. "I was glad to see us push through some struggle today and win some of those tighter matches — that's a step in the right direction and something we can continue to build on.'
The Mean Green took the doubles point to start the match.
Lou Chalard and Marina Adati took a 6-4 win at line three before Lilly Schultz and Stanislava Shulzhenko won 7-6 (7-5) at line two to clinch the point.
Chalard and Adati improved to 4-3 as a pair while Schultz and Shulzhenko moved to 2-1.
Olivia Malm started out singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at line five, which was followed by a Shulzhenko 6-2, 6-1 win at line three to get North Texas within one point of clinching the match.
Stadfany Nformi picked up the clinching fourth point shortly after Shulzhenko's win, taking a 7-5, 6-3 victory at line two.
The match was played out after the Mean Green won as the Lady Demons (0-3) got a point back at line one before Schultz won 7-5, 6-2 at line six and Chalard closed the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 victory at line four.
Sunday's win snapped a two-game skid for North Texas.
The Mean Green return home on Friday Feb. 14 for a doubleheader against Collin College and Oral Roberts.
