Skylar Savage and Anneca Anderson combine for one-hit shutout over Texans
DENTON, Texas – Skylar Savage collected her 300th career strikeout as UNT softball defeated Tarleton State 4-0 Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
Savage (W, 8-3) allowed only one hit over six innings pitched while she tallied her second combined shutout of the season and 11th of her career. She also matched her season-high mark of seven strikeouts as she carried a perfect game into the fourth and no-hit bid through 5 1/3 innings.
The Mean Green (18-7) posted three runs in the fourth inning as Cierra Simon broke the deadlock before Ausha Moore crossed the plate due to aggressive base running. Later in the fourth, the Texans (14-11) gave up a slapped RBI single that danced down the first-base line from Taylor Platt.
UNT added an insurance run on a wild pitch in the sixth as Caydance Gaddis scored her fourth run of the season.
After Savage spun six scoreless innings, Anneca Anderson entered in the top of the seventh to retire the side in order and collected one strikeout.
