UNT plates nine runs in the fifth inning for 11th comeback victory of the season
DENTON, Texas – Trailing 7-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Mean Green softball posted nine runs to capture a 13-7 comeback win over Memphis Saturday at Lovelace Stadium.
UNT (21-10, 4-4) tallied its highest runs total of the season against the Tigers (14-17, 3-5) and hit five home runs for the first time since last season's opening day game versus Utah Tech on Feb. 9, 2024, at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
Home runs from Kailyn Bearpaw, Madison Conley, Cierra Simon, Riley McNemar and Ausha Moore accounted for eight of the 13 runs scored for North Texas. Saturday marks the fourth game in program history in which five or more different UNT players have homered.
McNemar finished 2-for-4 to register consecutive multi-hit games for the first time in her career as she scored two runs and plated two RBI while Bearpaw matched her season high of two hits and totaled three RBI.
Leadoff batter Tatum Sparks matched her career high of three hits and broke the 7-7 tie with a two-run double in the fifth. This season, Sparks has collected a hit in 24 of the team's 30 games and leads the team with 13 multi-hit efforts.
Including her two-run home run that started the fifth inning rally, Simon finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one stolen base. The performance marks her first time this season with both a home run and stolen base in a single game, first since April 22, 2022, at Kansas.
Anneca Anderson (W, 9-3) recorded the win as she tossed six innings with four strikeouts. She allowed four earned runs on five hits and four walks.
