Mean Green’s WNIT Run Ends in Overtime Loss at Troy

Tommisha Lampkin posted 26 points in her final game at UNT
TROY, Ala. — A historic UNT women's basketball season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion as Troy defeated the Mean Green, 88-86, in overtime Thursday night.
A foul call following a UNT missed shot gave Troy a pair of free throws with .2 seconds left in the overtime period that proved to be the difference in the WNIT Super 16 matchup. Troy ended the overtime period on an 8-0 run.
The teams went back-and-forth all night in a game that featured nine lead changes and 12 ties. The largest lead of the game was a 53-44 advantage for the Trojans in the third quarter that came while Tommisha Lampkin was in the locker room with an injury.
After posting 16 points in the first half on 8-of-11 shooting, Lampkin took a shot to the face seconds into the second half that kept her out for the remainder of the third quarter. Troy immediately went on a 12-4 run following the injury to take its largest lead of the game.
Desiree Wooten stepped up in the scoring column with Lampkin sidelined with eight points in the third quarter and 21 in the game. Despite playing without Lampkin, the Mean Green kept it close and trailed by five heading into the fourth.
Lampkin returned from the locker room with a face mask and was reinserted into the game in the fourth quarter. She would finish her final game in a North Texas uniform with 26 points and seven rebounds.
The Mean Green tied the game at 67 with six minutes to play in the fourth and the teams would trade buckets down the stretch. UNT got the last look of regulation but were unable to convert as the game went to overtime at 75 apiece.
North Texas jumped out to an early lead in overtime but were downed by Troy's late run.
UNT ends Jason Burton's second season at the helm with a 25-9 record and school records for most wins, most home wins and most conference wins in a single season.
