Track & Field Continues Strong Regular Season Across Two Meets

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — UNT track and field saw plenty of success between two meets as the team split up to compete at the Texas Invitational and the John McDonnell Invitational Thursday and Friday.
The Mean Green throwers made the trip to Austin to throw at the Texas Invitational beginning Thursday afternoon. Gabe Songer and Rachone Stigarll set personal bests at the meet, while Jake Parchman, Fabrienne Foster and Morgan Haywood collected top-10 finishes in the hammer throw.
Meanwhile, a small group of North Texas athletes traveled to Fayetteville for the John McDonnell Invitational.
Brya Brewer made a statement in her outdoor debut for North Texas taking first place in the women's triple jump. Her mark of 12.68 meters is the best jump of her UNT career and is the third-best mark in the AAC this season. Behind Brewer, Jada Suarez placed seventh with a mark of 11.70 meters and Icey Green took eighth at 11.48 meters.
The Mean Green had similar success in the long jump with all three athletes competing in the event placing in the top nine. Green led the group with a jump of 5.98 meters, while Payton Guye placed sixth and Rayona Runnels came in three slots behind in ninth.
In the women's sprints, Reah DeGraffenried neared her personal best in the 100 meters, running an 11.89 to place sixth. DeGraffenried's efforts contribute to the women's 100 meters position group that is ranked No. 31 in the country the USTFCCCA.
The men recorded four finishes inside the top 10, starting with Hendrick Hundl who made his return to the track for the first time since the Raleigh Relays on March 29. Hundl placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.13, which is the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Clarence McGill was the highest finisher among the men competing in Fayetteville taking second in the 400-meter hurdles. He clocked a 51.55 to earn his fourth top-10 finish in the event in as many meets during the outdoor season. Ayden Thompson tied his highest individual placement of the season with a season-best mark of 14.47 meters to take fourth in the triple jump with Kason Johnson coming in right behind to round out the top five in the event.
North Texas will round out the regular season Saturday, May 3 at the Alumni Muster in College Station, Texas.
