Mean Green Sign All-League Big Man Josiah Shackleford

DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team has signed Peach Belt All-Conference big man Josiah Shackleford.
The 6-foot-9 rising senior joins the Mean Green after playing last season at DII Georgia Southwestern where he averaged 17.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He had seven double doubles last season for the Hurricanes and scored 20 or more points nine times including back-to-back 30-point games.
In his one season with the Hurricanes Shackleford left his mark. He made the third-most single season field goals (177) in program history. He had the program's seventh-best single season scoring average (17.3), He had the seventh-most single season blocks (33) in GSW history. He had the program's seventh best single season field goal percentage (.573) and had the 10th most single season rebounds in program history (189).
He made 13 field goals in a game twice last season. It's the second most single game field goals a Georgia Southwestern player has made in program history. He was 11-of-11 from the floor against USC Beaufort on Jan. 11. It was the second-best single game shooting performance in program history.
Prior to playing at Georgia Southwestern, the Greenville, North Carolina, native spent one season at Florida Gulf Coast in 2023-24 and two years and Brunswick Community College where he was a two-time NJCAA All-American, the NJCAA Region 10 Player of the Year and averaged 18.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for a top 10 NJCAA ranked team.
Shackleford prepped at God Christian Academy and was the conference Player of the Year. He played AAU for Team Wall, which was coached by John Wall.
He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
