CONWAY, Ark. – A young and relatively inexperienced group of runners took the course to open the 2025 cross country season on Saturday at the UCA Bear XC Invitational on Saturday.
The men opened the event with a three-mile run and were paced by sophomore Hunter Hendry, who placed 14th with a time of 15:18.83. He was followed closely by freshman Jason Wade (16th), freshman Luke Anderson (19th), junior Alan Proenza (21st) and Ethan Rodriguez, who finished 24th in his collegiate debut.
On the women's side, the Mean Green were led by junior Aditi Silwal's 10th place finish in 18:15.33 in the three-mile race. She was followed by sophomore Destiny Hernandez (13th) and freshman Mia Lay, who finished 19th.
"It was a solid early season opener for the group," head coach Erik Stevens said. "We went in with the pure intentions of really utilizing this as a solid threshold workout to get some good work in. I was pretty happy with the way that people still competed with that framework, though. It was good mentality coming in, good mentality throughout the execution of the plan and solid overall finish."
The Mean Green will travel to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, for their next competition.
