NEW ORLEANS – The UNT men's basketball beat Tulane on the road Sunday afternoon, 71-63, behind a 19-point and seven-assist performance by junior guard David Terrell Jr.
The Mean Green (11-7, 2-3) led for nearly 35 minutes but got big stops and made big shots late to hold off the Green Wave (12-6, 3-2) who had cut North Texas' once 13-point lead to just two points with five minutes remaining.
"I'm super proud of this group," said Mean Green head coach Daniyal Robinson. "We had a great week of practice and had a lot of guys step up tonight in different moments. This was a great one."
Along with Terrell's 19 points, UNT got 15 points from sophomore Je'Shawn Stevenson. It was 16th double digit game of the year.
Fellow sophomore Reece Robinson fell one rebound shy of a double-double but finished with 13 points and nine rebounds as he had timely put-backs and offensive rebounds.
Junior Cahmai Crosby finished with seven points and knocked down a crucial 3-pointer after Tulane had cut the Mean Green lead to just one possession. Crosby made two 3-pointers on the night.
Sunday's win is North Texas' fifth straight win over the Green Wave.
Next up for UNT is a home game against UTSA Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.
