TUCSON, Arizona – The UNT women's golf team is back in action Friday as they're in the Old Pueblo of the Sonoran Desert at the MountainView Collegiate hosted at the Preserve Golf Club by Kansas State and Missouri, March 20-22.
The Mean Green enter the 16-team tournament ranked No. 67 in the nation and in the top three in the American Conference positioning themselves for a strong postseason run and creeping close to an at-large position, especially with another strong showing this weekend.
North Texas junior Bouquet Subsomboon has been at the top of her game as she's had five straight top 30 finishes and finished in the top 30 in six of UNT's seven competitions this season.
This will be the ninth time UNT has competed in the MountainView Collegiate, which began in 1999 and has run every year since. North Texas' best finish is sixth, which they've done twice including the last time they competed in the event in 2023.
THE EVENT: The MountainView Collegiate will play as a par-72 course at 6,365 yards, making it the longest course the Mean Green have competed at all year. The teams will play one round a day over the three days. On Friday and Saturday players will tee off between 7:30 a.m. MST and 9:40 a.m. MST over 10-minute intervals. Sunday will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. MST.
THE FIELD: There are 16 teams participating in this year's MountainView Collegiate. Four of the 16 teams are ranked inside the top 35 in the nation. Fellow American Conference foes UTSA and Wichita State are also in the field with UNT: Cincinnati, Colorado State, No. 32 Houston, Iowa, No. 25 Iowa State No. 33 Kansas State, Long Beach State, Marshall, No. 34 Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas, San Diego State, Texas Tech, UTSA, Wichita State, Wisconsin.
Representing UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Mason Lewis, Marin Fujiyasu, Malisone Chanthapanya, Bouquet Subsomboon and Mallorie Luitwieler
RESULTS: Live scoring and results will be posted on Scoreboard. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.
AKERS SAYS: "Our team is excited to travel to Arizona for the MountainView. The temperatures are forecasted in the 100s. We are talking about that as well as the altitude difference. The course sits at about 3,500 feet above sea level. The golf ball should be flying. The ladies have been working on distances with Trackman with elevation and temperature set to Arizona. I have taken teams to this event many times over the years. The community is a Robson development. The members and residents are very excited to have us there. It is a really good feeling. It will be important to take good notes during the practice round and stay hydrated throughout the event. We are walking in rounds one and two, which will be the first time this spring we have seen walking. Our ladies use pushcarts and we will encourage them to use the umbrella holders and stay under the umbrella while walking."
NEXT UP: Following the MountainView Collegiate, UNT will have one final tune-up before the American Conference Championships in late April. North Texas will take on Murray State in the Bruzzy Challenge on April 10 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
