Niedermeier, Seabrook Earn American Conference Honors

DENTON — The UNT soccer team earned a pair of American Conference weekly awards, as junior forward Claire Niedermeier and fifth-year goalkeeper Sarah Margaret Seabrook nabbed Offensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.
The Mean Green went 2-0 over the course of the week with a 1-0 home win over ULM on Thursday and then traveled to McNeese State on Sunday to win a 4-2 game behind a hat trick from Niedermeier – the second of her career.
Niedermeier scored the lone goal on Thursday to give the Mean Green the win in a physical contest and then scored two goals within eight minutes of each other in the first half on Sunday before rounding out the hat trick in the 64th minute. She is the first Mean Green player to record multiple hat tricks since Rachel Holden notched her second in 2016.
Seabrook earned her first collegiate shutout with the 1-0 win on Thursday with four saves on the night. She turned around on Sunday and had five saves in the 4-2 victory, with one of the McNeese State goals coming on a penalty kick and the other a long-distance, highlight-reel missile.
"I'm really proud of these two— it's so well-deserved," head coach John Hedlund said. "Claire and Sammy put in the hard work during the offseason, and they've both taken their games to the next level since last year."
The award marks Seabrook's first, while it's Niedermeier's first time winning a superlative award with two previous nods to the weekly Honor Roll.
The Mean Green will return home on Thursday to face Oral Roberts on Youth Night at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
