John David Baker joined the Mean Green coaching staff as a quality control coach ahead of the 2016 season. The Mean Green reached a bowl game for the first time since the 2013-14 season, and improved its win total by four games from 2015. The North Texas offense improved significantly, scoring 9.6 points per game more in 2016, which was the 11th-best turnaround in the country.
