Alex Furr was named the Associate Head Coach for the Mean Green prior to the 2021-22 season. She comes to UNT after having served the last three seasons as head coach at Panola College in Carthage, Texas, compiling a record of 50-29.
Furr led the Fillies to three straight double-digit win seasons, finishing ranked No. 24 in the final NJCAA Poll in her final season. For her strong efforts at Panola, Furr was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 30 Under 30 in 2020, given to coaches who exemplify their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
In 2021-22, Furr took Panola to a 21-8 overall record and a 12-6 mark in conference competition. The 21 wins were the most for Panola since the 2017-18 season. She also made sure the Fillies took care of business in the classroom as the women's basketball team had the best team GPA on campus in that academic year.
In 2020-21, Furr led the Fillies into the Region XIV Tournament semifinal with a 13-8 overall record. After starting 0-3, Panola finished the year winning 13 of their final 18 games for their first appearance in the semis since 2017-18.
Prior to Panola, she spent three seasons at New Mexico Junior College, working as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
At New Mexico JC she worked with the No. 1 Preseason NJCAA team in the country. The team had the best finish in school history finishing as national runner up at the 2019 NJCAA tournament. She was named the 2018 WBCA Juco Assistant Coach of the Year.
A native of Athens, Texas, Furr earned both her bachelor’s (2014) and master’s (2016) degrees from Fresno State where she was a five-year letterwinner and played in 133 games with 80 starts. Furr ranks in the Fresno State all-time top 10 in 3-pointers made and career free throw percentage.
While playing at Athens High School, Furr was named the 2010 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Miss Texas award, earned all-state recognition three years in a row, recorded 3,169 career points, and made 337 total three-pointers. She was a McDonald's All-America nominee and earned TABC "Miss Texas" in 2010.
