Aaron Gordon joined the Mean Green soccer program in the spring of 2017 as an assistant coach. He brings 10 years of collegiate coaching experience at the SEC and Big 12 level to North Texas.Â
The Dallas native will work primarily with the Mean Green goalkeepers. Prior to coming to Denton, Gordon was the head coach of the Mississippi State women’s soccer team for four years. He also spent six years in Lubbock, Texas, working with the Texas Tech women’s soccer program as an assistant coach and an associate head coach.
One of the many highlights of his career was during the 2012 season when the Red Raiders won a school-record 16 games, advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament for the first time, and made its first trip to the NCAA Tournament, where it advanced to the second round.
While Gordon was in Lubbock, he helped the Red Raiders to more overall (60) and conference (23) wins than the previous nine years combined, and a spot in the Big 12 Tournament all six seasons.Â
Gordon also has experience coaching at the professional level. He worked for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer as the director of coaching. Prior to FC Dallas, he was the top assistant for the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA.Â
He has also worked with the Dallas Inter Soccer Club as the director of coaching,  served as the head coach of the Women’s Texas Lightning team of the W-League and spent a tenure as the head coach for the 93 Region 3 ODP team.
Gordon received his bachelor’s degree from North Texas in 1997 after time spent at Hardin Simmons and the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg. After college, Gordon played professionally in the USL, where he led the indoor league in goals in 1996.Â
Gordon holds a USSF "A" License and a USSF Goalkeeper Diploma.
Gordon and his wife, Ashley, who is presently coaching with FC Dallas, have two daughters, Addison and Avery.
