Kayla Jones began at North Texas in 2019. She serves as Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Nutrition, where she directly oversees nutrition provisions for all of North Texas athletics.
Jones serves as the primary dietitian for UNT football, men's and women's golf, soccer, swimming and diving and tennis programs.
Her other job responsibilities include developing strategic direction and provide oversight for the provision of sports nutrition services for 12 sports, including group nutrition education, individual nutrition counseling, body composition assessment and analysis, meal and menu planning, game day nutrition strategies and post-game recovery strategies to optimize student-athlete performance and recovery, protocol development and management of eating disorders/disordered eating.
Also in her role, Jones provides evidence-based guidance in all areas to improve performance and recovery, decrease risk of illness and injury and promote overall health and wellness. She collaborates with team physician, athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, and sport coaches to promote an interdisciplinary approach to student-athlete care. In addition, Jones provides medical nutrition therapy, as needed, in coordination with the team physicians to help manage or treat medical conditions and nutritional challenges to performance.
She is also responsible for protocol development and maintenance for standardized injury protocol, body composition testing, and disordered eating/eating disorder management. Jones provides oversight of nutritional supplement review, including herbal and performance supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy; and monitoring use of appropriate supplementation in coordination with sports medicine staff while also serving as a preceptor to multiple dietetic intern programs to teach future RDs about the field of sports nutrition.
Prior to UNT, Jones earned both a B.S. in Nutrition with Emphasis in Dietetics and an M.S. in Exercise and Sports Nutrition from Texas Woman's University.
Jones served as a Clinical Dietitian at Aramark from 2019 to 2022 and a Clinical Dietitian at Medical City Healthcare in 2021, prior to joining UNT as a Sports Nutrition Intern before being promoted to Performance Dietitian in 2022.
Kayla is married to her husband, Evan, and the couple has one son Tate.
