A former Texas A&M-Commerce standout under Jason Burton, Princess Davis recently concluded her third season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the UNT women’s basketball program.
Â
Following this past season, Davis was selected to the WBCA Thirty Under 30, a program recognizing up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches at all levels of the game. Criteria included community service, mentorship or impact on others, professional manner, attitude and professional association involvement.
Â
In Davis’ three years on staff, UNT has reached new heights with three straight 19-win seasons for the first time ever and 67 total wins in that span, which lead all American Conference competitors. It also claimed the program’s second ever conference championship in 2024 and has competed in national postseason tournaments twice.
Â
That stretch has also seen North Texas lead the American Conference in several statistical categories like points per game (71.6), field goals per game (26.0), field goal percentage (42.8), free throws per game (14.9) and opponent three-point percentage (28.4). In addition, the Mean Green have accumulated six All-Conference selections in that time, which is tied for most in the league.
Â
Working primarily with the backcourt, Davis has been instrumental in the development of several All-Conference caliber guards. The most recent example came this past season in Aysia Proctor, who improved her scoring average by 9.6 points to earn Second Team All-Conference recognition. Guards Ereauana Hardaway and Desiree Wooten also saw massive improvement under Davis’ guidance, each setting career highs in points per game, rebounds per game, assists, steals and three-point percentage two years ago.
Â
Davis also played a key role in the signing of point guard Cherie Spencer, who was the No. 2 recruit in the state of Louisiana at the time of her signing and made an immediate impact as a true freshman during the 2025-26 season.
Â
Davis arrived at North Texas after spending the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach on Burton’s staff at Texas A&M-Commerce. She helped guide the Lions through their first season at the Division I level, going 10-8 in Southland Conference play before reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Â
Before her coaching stint at TAMUC, Davis was an assistant coach at Trinity Valley Community College for two seasons. There, the Lady Cardinals made the NJCAA Tournament twice, including a national runner-up finish in 2021. Davis mentored seven all-conference honorees, eight all-region players, an NJCAA Region XIV Freshman of the Year and a pair of NJCAA All-Americans.
Â
Davis was also a standout on the court at Texas A&M-Commerce, playing for the program from 2014-19. No Commerce player has ever played, started or won more games than Davis, who was one’s Burton’s very first recruits there. A native of Shreveport, La., Davis completed her career second in assists, third in points and first in minutes played. She averaged 11.3 points and 3.6 assists per game en route to three All-Conference honors, a 2015 LSC Freshman of the Year award and being named an All-American in 2018.
Â
Following her collegiate career, Davis spent time playing professionally for ZKK Plamen Pozega in Croatia.
Â
After graduating with a degree in kinesiology and sport studies from Commerce in 2018, Davis went on to secure her master’s degree in counseling two years later.
