Mean Green Softball Wins Season Opener

Huntsville, Texas (2/11/06) The North Texas softball team won its season opener, 7-4, against Louisiana Tech at the Domino’s Pizza Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Mean Green lost its second game of the day, 9-1, against host school,
For the first time in its three-year history,
Sophomore Kristina Fowler was the star on the mound and at the plate in the opening victory. She picked up her first win of the season, pitching seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits. At the plate, she went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in. She only needed a home run to complete the cycle as she posted a single, double and a triple in the game. Last year, she recorded only two doubles and one triple during the entire season.
Louisiana Tech took the early lead, 1-0, after the first inning.
Louisiana Tech kept the game interesting, posting three runs off four hits and two Mean Green errors in the top of the seventh inning.
The Mean Green offense output did not carry over into the second game. NT was held to just fours hits. Walker, Fowler, Bostic and Monica Garcia all posted hits in the loss to
Freshman Jessica Smith saw action for the first time this season. She pitched three scoreless innings before giving up six runs, four of them earned, in the next two innings.
